2025 A Quiet Year and Listening Inwards

I wanted to sit down and write this properly, rather than trying to say it in fragments on social media.

This past year has been much quieter for me. If you have been following along for a while, you will probably have noticed that there has been less making, fewer shop updates, and less of me online. That has been very intentional.

After a long stretch of working at full pace with ceramics, I needed to step back. For health reasons, but also for something harder to explain, I took time away from constant production. I gave myself permission to slow down and to listen, rather than push forward.

What that space gave me was the chance to remember why I started making in the first place. Not to fill shelves or meet deadlines, but to explore, to play, and to respond to what was around me, to create a life that flowed, where art and creation was given space.

During this time I have been spending more days both resting for health, being outside, planning and working on the land here in Cornwall, paying attention to the seasons, to the animals, and to the materials that exist beyond clay. I have been experimenting quietly, often without an end goal, letting ideas unfold slowly.

Some of you may remember the exhibition at Porthmeor Studios with Jana from Gilliflower Pottery (I will be posting about this in a separate post). That period of working with wild clay, earth pigments, and ancient stone sites in Cornwall reminded me how much I love making that feels rooted and instinctive. It was a turning point for me, accepting the need and want to play and experiment, to flow my hearts desires and not make purely if the sake of making. To be brave and make from my heart and hope this resonates with customers and gallery owners.

I also want to say thank you. I know many of you found my work through different phases, whether that was botanical pieces, coastal work, more whimsical illustrations, or the quieter storytelling bowls. I am deeply grateful that you have stayed with me through those shifts, many of these things will still be evident in my future work.

I am not leaving ceramics behind. I will continue to make small batches of familiar pieces for the shops I supply and for smaller special updates. I have built relationships with some truly lovely shops over the years, and that work still matters very much to me.

At the same time, I am allowing my practice to widen. I am giving myself permission to work with fibres, with mixed media, and with materials that feel just as important as clay right now.

Alongside this, I have been working on something new with fellow potter and friend Krissy. We share a way of living and working that is centred around land, community, and making with intention. Through Roots and Ritual, we are exploring natural dyes, ink making, fibre work, incense, and slow crafted objects that come from the place we live.

It is all very small scale and very considered. We are not interested in mass production. We are creating with the seasons, with how we feel, and with what the land offers us at any given time.

Going forward, this space will slowly become more of an artist’s journal as well as a shop. You will still find ceramics here, but you may also find fibre work, ritual objects, and other pieces that reflect where my practice is growing.

Thank you for being here, for your patience, and for allowing me the space to evolve. I hope you will continue to walk alongside me as this next chapter unfolds.

With thanks as always, Cara x
